Project Overview
The project was to design an umbrella mount with magnetic clamping to be used majorly in HVAC industry for remote or roof repairs and installation. The product features a 480lbs magnetic hold and a quick disengagement method.
Challenge
The major hurdle in designing the magnetic mount was to design a quick disengaging mechanism as it's a lot of magnetic force to demagnatize with a mere turn of 90 degrees.
Solution
We came up with a modular solution for the problem, used multiple magnets and leveraged a mechanism to slide non magnetic material between the holding surface for demagnatizing.
Concept Sketches
We took idea from Umbrella mount team and sketched various concepts out of which one was selected.
3d CAD & Modelling
We came up with an industrial product that was durable and is multi-purpose in nature. On top of that we exceeded the client requirements for the magnetic pull force required.
Design for Manufacture
Our design expertise enabled us to deliver a part to part 3d drawings and files for client to easily 3d print and test everything out.
Prototyping
Our design is made in a way that it is really easy to 3d print to show the technical application of your idea.
